First record of Magnolia virginiana (Magnoliaceae) from Guatemala and an updated list for the Guatemalan magnolias
Main Article Content
Abstract
Magnolia virginiana is recorded for the first time in wetlands located along the banks of the Cahabón River, in the municipality of Cobán, Alta Verapaz Department, Guatemala. A taxonomic description, photographs, illustrations, and a distribution map for this species are presented. Additionally, its morphological variation is analyzed in comparison with populations from the United States and Cuba, and hypotheses regarding its presence in Guatemala are proposed. Finally, an updated list of the magnolia species recorded in the country is provided.
