Balance of the first malaria eradication campaign in Ecuador

Abstract

The malaria campaing in Ecuador was started the 15th november of 1949 under the direction of Dr. Juan Montalván of the "Sevicio Nacional Antimalárico", achieving a considerable reduction in the parasithemic index. the 20th of july, 1956, the Plan of Malarial Eradication was initiated, in which it was determinated to erradicate malaria within four years. Most of the four years passed by without the expected success of the campaign. In 961 a new contract was signed and the campaign has continued under the assistance of the SCISP. However, the final purpose, total eradication of malaria, has not yet been achieved.
