Abstract

It is known that most drugs. Administered in toxic doses to the pregnant female, they also produce toxic effects in the fetus, and even in the latter, the effects can be more deleterious than in the mother. As has been discussed by Friend et al., some drugs have embryotropic toxicity, that is, they are toxic to the fetus at doses that do not cause the mother any. Embryotoxicity is generally due to the fact that the different enzymatic systems have not yet developed in the fetus, including the one that, in the adult, is directly related to the metabolic destruction of the drug.
