Abstract

West, in comparative work, demonstrated that while drugs such as guanethidine, aminoguanidine, lysergic acid diethylamide, and its derivatives, in the doses used in his experience, did not alter the course of pregnancy in rats or produce alterations in the fetus, several tested antihistamines, such as Aprobit and promethazine (phenothiazines), mepyramine and cyproheptadine, especially the first, selectively caused toxic effects on the fetus, producing reabsorption of some fetuses, abortion or expulsion of dead fetuses.
