Abstract

The hypoglycaemic properties of the legume Lupinus mutabilis were evaluated in a group of 36 pregraduated students between 19 to 47 years old. Doses of the legume were distributed to two experimental groups of participants with glucose levels between 70,9 mg / dl and 99,8 mg /dl. The first group (GEXP1) received one dose in each session for 6 months. And the second group (GEXP2) received eight doses in each session for the same period of time. After each treatment, these people were evaluated five times by fasting blood tests performed by a certified laboratory that determined the blood glucose levels of the participants in each period. Statistical analyzes were performed in the SPSS program that included the Student’s t-test for independent groups and repeated measures ANOVA. The 100 % of the participants had a decrease in the blood glucose level during the periods of analysis. However, in the ANOVA the glucose values obtained in GEXP1 were significant, in GEXP2 they were not. Of the five measurements of the glycemia, the second blood sample was the most efficient in the reduction of glucose level for both Groups, 1 and 2. Despite the fact that the results of the observational study were positive, the blood glucose values are not related to the number of doses given to the study participants.
